Okay. So I don't know what to do as far as organization for school this year. Last year I used a separate binder for each subject, as I did the year before. I was organized, but bringnig that many books home was always a hassle, and my shoulder was strained every day from carring my bookbag home everyday.
I'm going to be a junior this year... and I don't know what to do! I was thinking about getting a notebook for each subject (each about 500 pages) and then 2 of those portfolio-like things that have 5 different folders (i don't know how to explain them, i hope you know what im talking about ) to put worksheets & whatever else in them.
Does that sound like a good idea? If not, any other suggestions?
When closed it is about the size of a standard notebook, but when you open it, it has several folders inside and tabs to label them. You can find them in the office section at walmart, target, office depot, etc. They come in very handy with my classes AND job! The ones you find at walmart are super cute. They have all different kinds of colors and styles. Atleast check it out to see if it could possibly help you. I think, as already said, you are on the right track. I'm not sure what your classes require of you (many may prefer that you have your own notebook for ONLY that class). If that is the case then get a note book for each class, if not, try getting a 5 subject that you can use for all. Or maybe a couple of 3 subject notebooks. I hope that I helped atleast a little bit. solidadvice4teens answered Tuesday July 29 2008, 8:15 pm: Sounds like you could use a shopping cart to lug all that stuff around. I think what you need to do is get a schedule with all your class times and days written on it.
You can then use that to know exactly what binders to leave at home versus bring every single day. I like the idea of having ONE 500 page notebook divided into different subjects as well as your folder idea. Keep the folder with you in your locker and you should be fine.
All you need is one notebook that size and a smaller book where you list homework assignments to keep you organized and free of all binders and a heavy book bag. You're certainly on the right track.
Ask your friends and fellow classmates what they do to handle all the materials from class and not have heavy backpacks to lug around. They will have tons of ideas. You should also talk to your parents about the weight of your bag and all the books hurting your shoulders, neck and back. They might have a solution.
You should also bring up your problem to your teachers and tell them that it's hurting to lug around all the books and binders at once. They may have solutions also. Bottom line is you only need certain books and materials on certain days. Once you figure out your schedule you can eliminate the need to carry that shit around everywhere. Cux answered Tuesday July 29 2008, 7:57 pm: Definitely do not mix folders for classes- you'll lose things within the first couple of weeks, I promise you that.
See what your teachers suggest, as in, only a few of them might suggest you get a three-ring binder for their class. Some might only suggest a thin folder and some may suggest nothing.
Ask your teachers if you should get the 5-folder portfolio notebook [I know what you're talking about, I use one for Calc]. Really those are more for note-taking classes, so try to figure out which are like that.
If you don't want to carry all of your folders home, maybe leave some in your locker and only take the homework sheet that you need and any notes from that day that may help you complete the homework. That's what I did for Chemistry a lot last year because I just couldn't carry everything.
Leave some things at home, and if you know what you'll need for the next day, take that to school and leave the rest of the folder at home. It's no use carrying everything around if you don't have to =].
