Ok, i have a paul mitchell straightner and it works good but my hair is really thick and it gets it straightned but sometimes it still leaves it poofy. Well my friend got a new straightner from walmart and used it on my hair and it works really good! My hair was so flat and straight. The paul mitchell straightner was kind of expensive and the one from walmart was cheap and it worked bettter. Why is this? Also, is there any straigtners you know of that are between 20-50 dollars that work well? thanks!
Hitoast answered Tuesday July 29 2008, 12:59 pm: well, usually things are expensive because of the brand name. So, even if the straightener IS good, most of what you are paying for is the name. also, go to best buy and type in straighteners. The second one down (conair infiniti) is the best straightener in my opinion. WAY better than my old chi. It's a little over your budget, but it's well worth it! Also, when you get a straightener, make sure the hot plates are ceramic. those work the best :) Goodluck! [ Hitoast's advice column | Ask Hitoast A Question ]
Jehmehh answered Tuesday July 29 2008, 12:46 pm: It might have been the way she used it. I had this wet-to-dry straightener I used on my hair and it barely got my hair straight, even when it wasn't that wet. Then one day my friend did it for me (when it was completely wet) and she got it to come out pin straight. I always have problems straightening my own hair, so that could be a possible cause.
I'd also suggest buying some products to use while you straighten your hair. Paul Mitchell probably has a straightening spray you can use while you use the straightener, which really does help a lot. Then when you're done there are sprays and such that "hold" the hair and make it stay straight so it won't puff up throughout the day or because of humidity and such.
Lastly, I have a straightener that works fairly well and it's just a little Conair one. I think it only cost me about $30, or maybe even less. I got it at Harmon or Duane Reade or someplace like that. (Also if you're interested the wet-to-dry straightener was by Remington and cost about the same.)
