LimeWire?

Question Posted Saturday July 26 2008, 7:17 pm

OK, so I am in the process of installing LimeWire on my computer. I heard you can get music off of it. There are a fewww songs I want that aren't available on iTunes so how would I use Limewire for that? Do you have to pay for the songs?
If not, isn't that illegal?
But, if you do have to pay, how do you go about that?
Tell me anything you think is important. Thanks!

Here's my opinion on Limewire:
DON'T download it. It crashed my computer and the song quality is really crappy half of the time.

You don't have to pay for the songs, but if they aren't on iTunes they still might not be on Limewire. I've heard it's not "illegal", but I don't know to be completely honest with you.

Downloading things that you would normally have to pay for is illegal. Limewire itself is not. Buying the PRO version doesn't make downloading things legal.

It is very unlikely you will get caught downloading things illegally. Hundreds of thousands of people are not caught for every person who is. Don't worry too much about it. Your chance of getting caught is reduced if you keep Limewire running as little as possible, but the network works better when more people have Limewire running.

When you download things, you're downloading from other peoples' computers. The downloads are therefore not guaranteed to be safe, real, or virus-free. If you're not stupid, though, you will not ever get viruses. Here's my guide on not being stupid:

Running Limewire does not allow people to download arbitrary files on your computer. They can only download files which are in your shared folders. When you first install Limewire, nothing is in your shared folders. By default, everything you download is put in shared folders so that other people can download them from you.

Just keeping Limewire running without downloading anything will never give you viruses. You must actually download the viruses to be infected by them.

Alright I like lime wire because I'm always broke. Yes its free, just make sure you got the free one but I don't think its that hard to get confused. Now lime wire is a file sharing program so when you have it open it is constantly sending and receiving files. So what I do when I need a couple songs I just open it, get the songs, transfer them to your itunes [drag and drop], and then make sure your exit it. Don't just click the red X, there is a little icon on the bottom right side near the time [if you have windows] right click it and then click exit so that it doesn't send and receive files. I do that to reduce the risk of viruses and stuff that would harm my computer.

I love limewire.
it is not as perfect as other downloading programs but for free its pretty dang good.

anyways, to minimize your search to just songs go to the audio option.

be sure you're connected or else it won't work.

and really they do have lots of obscure things you could never find on itunes.

once you have it on limewire, drag it from your to limewire library to your itunes library, simple as that! now you have magically bought it from itunes!

hope i helped,
Kat

You would type the name of the song into the search bar, and hope that it comes up. LimeWire really sucks. It doesn't have everything and most of the songs you'll find are remixes. It's usually not worth it.

LimeWire is completely illegal because it is free.

You can get a Premium version of the program for a fee, but honestly it's not worth it.

Your best bet is to just see if you can search online to find the song, because chances are if iTunes doesn't have it, LimeWire won't.
