LoveSucks answered Thursday June 26 2008, 12:08 pm: SAT scores are reported on a scale from 200-800, with additional subscores reported for the essay (ranging from 2-12) and for multiple-choice writing questions (on a 20-80 scale). Your scores tell college admissions staff how you did compared with other students who took the test. For example, if you scored close to the mean or average—about 500 on SAT critical reading and 500 on SAT mathematics—admissions staff would know that you scored as well as about half of the students who took the test nationally.
Anddd, the new test is out of 2400 points, 1500 is about average. "Is it a good score?" This is the wrong question to be asking. Instead, look at the average scores reported by the schools you plan on applying to. Does your score fall into those ranges? A good score will enable you to attend the school you want to attend. Remember, if your score is lower than a school's reported averages it is important to compensate for that low score in other areas of your application like GPA and your personal statement.
