Art careers

Question Posted Tuesday June 24 2008, 7:21 pm

17/f

I am thinking of maybe going to university next year after I finish high school. I really want a career in art but I have no idea what I could possibly do.
I don't want to do like technology or anything involving computers ie: graphic artist etc.
I also know that I can't just be an artist because no artists make any money until they die anyway.
What careers could I possibly think about so I know what to do in uni?

There are many opportunities in art. You can go for art education and teach art classes at all levels, there is also art therapy which is really interesting. Also there are jobs in advertising, illustration, media, and the like. Most colleges and universities will have a description of possible careers for each major. Take a look at the website for the universities that you are interested in. This will give you a better idea of what is out there. Good luck!

You can do graphic design or work for a company like Disney.

Well it depends on what you like to draw. Lets say you like to draw animation characters. You could design your own comics for stores, work with publishers and design their covers and such for a publishing company. You could design your own posters to sell in different retail stores. You could also sketch your own tattoos that you can give to tattoo shops. When you go to a university they will have you take basic classes then get you into your major so you have more time to think about it. With a degree in art itself you could make money doing all of these things.
