eyebrow waxing

Question Posted Saturday June 21 2008, 10:49 am

when you go to get your eyebrows waxed, are there like pictures of different eyebrow styles to choose from or do you have to just like describe to the person how you want your eyebrows done?

also, do the people who wax your eyebrows have good enough taste to know exactly what eyebrow shape would make you look best? because i can not decide which i style i should get done.

also, when you get your eyebrows done, does it cause a rash or a burn or bumps or anything??

and does it hurt really bad?? sorry this is kind of long. thanks!

usually they'll follow your natural arch, but you can tell them to do so if your afraid they won't. this is usually the best style for most people.
some places will apply a powder over your eyebrows before they wax; this allows the wax to adhere to the hairs and not your skin. i've been to places that don't do that however, so ask around for one that does.
the bad news is that it's going to hut your first time, but the more you get it done the less it hurts. the trick is to find a beautician who is really good and only has to wax each area of your browline once. (generally they'll wax the bottom and top of each brow, in between your brows, and sometimes on the smaller-ended tip.) the more times they wax the same area the more likely you'll a little red and get little bumps from the irritation; it'll start to go away within a few hours. they'll pluck any stray hairs they miss, and this is what i find hurts the most.

At first, it kinda caught me off guard so it hurt a little more then I expected. Trust me, you'll get used to it very soon.

As for the shape, when I go in all the ladies that work there are Asian and hardly speak English (its the closest salon that does it for under 20$) so they don't ask my opinion, they just kinda do what they do. Lucky for me, its my natural brow shape and they just clean it up and keep them looking nice. Its perfect.

You can always talk to the person waxing your eyebrows and let them know you're not sure about what to do. Your best bet would be to go with your natural brow shape and ask the lady/man to 'clean them up' unless you're going for a drastic eyebrow change.

Good luck!

you need to know what you want done when you go in. You can ask for suggestions or what they like best, eyebrows aren't really made by face shape, just as long as they begin aligned with the inner corner of your eye and go out to slightly past the outer corner then your fine, how thin or thick you want them is totally up to you. They will do what they think will look best but if you don't give them guidelines and you hate it then you can't really say anything. It doesn't hurt real bad, unless you have a really low tolerance for pain. You might tear up a little bit, that's totally normal your eyes will water, but they see it all the time so it's nothing. Just have some idea of what you want and then if you want give them a little free reign. You will have redness and possibly bumps at the site for a couple of hours at least, but it will easily go away.
