Canker Sores

Question Posted Wednesday June 18 2008, 10:08 pm

My right lymph node is swollen, but thats not all. I have a canker sore on the right cheek of my mouth, it hurts really bad. Is there anything i can do to prevent them from coming back when they leave? i know that to get rid of them you use one part maalox and one part benedryl, but how can you prevent them?

Thanks,
Gina

Yeah, like the person before me said. You cannot prevent canker sores..really. Sometimes they are a result of stress, so try to keep calm. I find that if you take salt water and swish it around in your mouth like mouthwash helps. Do it before you go to bed, and it will dry out that spot and it doesn't sting, and it makes it feel much better. Try cankaid, or orajel, those numbing gels - they help A TON! To numb the pain, until it fully heals. And overall just be careful what you eat until it goes away.

You can't really prevent them. Some people are prone to more canker sores than others. I know alot of people that get them, but I also know alot of people that don't. Here are a few things you can do so they aren't as frequent.

-Don't use toothpaste containing SLS or other irritating ingredients
-Avoid chewing gum, hard, crunchy, or really spicy foods as much as you can to limit mouth irritation
-Brush your teeth after meals or at least twice a day
-Use a softer toothbrush and floss a few times a week

-hope that helped!♥
