well i used to cut and my parents dont know but i did stop. anyway i might have to go to the doctors and i have scars on my hips and i'm worried that the doctors will ask me about it and stuff. what do i do?? plus i dont want them telling my parents because it is my business not theirs. i dont have any open cuts or anything like i said i stopped but i have scars. and there is no good explanation on why i have scars on my hips lol. thanks so much :)
If you lie to the doctor, he/she may feel that you are still having major mental issues and may feel obligated to inform your parents.
Your doctor, most likely, isn't going to say anything to your parents. He/she may not even say anything to you about the scarring. Nowadays they see many young people with scars on their bodies from self-mutilation. Doctor's are not concerned about "ratting you out" to your parents, they only get involved with the parents when they think the child is having problems they cannot deal with.
This being said, the fact that the scars are healed up will indicate that you no longer are going through the problems you are now. The doctor may even think you have gotten mental help for the disorder. Either way, you should definately not lie to your doctor.
If the doctor asks why you have cuts then be honest. Just tell him that you went through a hard time in your life and things are okay now and you know you don't need to do that to your body any more. If you claim that a dog or a cat did it, the doctor will probably not believe you. If your scars are bad enough that they are visible then it probably doesn't look like an animal wound anyway.
In short, just be honest about what you went through. Don't get nervous about it, the doctor is only there to make sure you're alright. Doctors see these things all the time and they know when a child needs help. If you don't have unhealed wounds then he/she will probably think you're past the self-harming point.
I hope you're honest with your doctor so he/she knows how to deal with you properly and can see that you get treatment if you need to in the future (you know, if you start doing it really bad again or something). I hope your doctor's appointment goes well and you find yourself to be in good health. [ Peeps's advice column | Ask Peeps A Question ]

I don't think the doctor would ask about it though. I don't even know how they would see it, but I guess it depends on what you're going there for.
They wouldn't tell your parents. Unless you told them it was just some scar that showed up for no apparent reason. They'd find that a little bit weird.
There's this scar cream. I think it's called mederma? I don't know, but they have it at walgreens and stuff. And it works really good. Try that.

BrokenWings answered Thursday June 12 2008, 6:21 pm: Even if he does ask you about it, he can't tell your parents because of doctor patient confidentiality. If you don't have any open sores they can't say you're in danger which is the only reason they could break the doctor patient confidentiality so I think you're ok
:) take care xx [ BrokenWings's advice column | Ask BrokenWings A Question ]
jessicamarie answered Thursday June 12 2008, 5:04 pm: well first off. im glad that you have stoped. its a bad habit. secondly, if the dr. happens to ask just say that your dog or a friends dog likes to jump up on you and it sratches you.
