Algebra 1 problem. I know this isn't a math help website but I thought it could help because I do need it. A word problem is "There are 2 children in the Brown family. The sum of their ages is 28 and product is 195. What are the ages?" I know the answer is 13 & 15 and that the equations are x+y=28, xy=195. What I don't know is how to solve the equation. Please help with the problem. Thanks so much! I will rate you if you help me arrive at the answer!

Wow, this seems complicated for an Algebra 1 problem. I don't even remember having to solve for zeros until I reached Algebra 2.
Then again, I took Algebra 1 my freshman year and I'm a senior about to graduate... maybe times have changed or maybe my memory just isn't that great.
Anyway, I wrote out the problem on an index card to make it easier to solve [it's quite difficult to type out all of the steps efficiently]
I have scanned it and hosted it, so all you have to do is click the link...

err the way I understand it is you replace X with 13 or 15, and the same with Y.
So:
x + y = 28
13 + 15= 28
xy= 195
13 x 15= 195
sorry if this isn't what you wanted...
If you give more explanation, I could help you more :) ]
