job follow up

Hi im 18/f i need a job and im really lazy and don't really want one, but nonetheless. My mom says i need to call and follow up like say did you get my application and whatnot, i applied to a dozen places online. is this necessary?

Applying online does nothing. You have to call to have any chance at getting an interview. Plus, it helps to have a voice of a human to associate with an application.

Yes, its a very good idea to follow up.
It lets a potential employer know how
interested you are in working for them.

Someone who shows interest is more likely
to be noticed. Its nice to hire someone
who is eager to have the job. :)

Yes. You want your name to stand out. I hire people at my job and if someone actually takes the time to call me I remember there name and put there application on the top of my pile. But when you call just say something like "I just wanted to thank you for taking time to interview me. If you have any further questions I would be happy to answer them." If you are to shy to call, just send a thank you card, they are effective as well.
