I'm horrible with pain. My hair dresser told me it was the worst pain in her life. That scared me the most. When I was about to get it done, I started crying. The guy was amazing about it. After he did it, I was so glad I did it. Its soooooo worth it. All it felt like was a pinch. It didnt hurt that bad whatsoever.
2. I have no idea how I got my mom to agree. I dont ever remember totally asking. So we were taking about it and she said I asked her at a real younge age (like 10). She said maybe when i turn 14 because it seemed like a long way from now. I guess she thought I wasn't going to remember; but i did. :) She had no problem, it seemed, bcause its one i could hide. before i did it, i asked about my nose.. this was her reaction "Absolutly not!!!!" because it was on my face that everyone could see, apparently.
3. It takes 6 months to heal. Thats what my piercing person said. You can change the jewlery from 4-5 months though.
4. DONT GET IT PIERCED IN THE SUMMER. My birthday is in November and my friends thought it'd be pointless to get it then. But actually, it was the best time. Not fall, summer, or spring. WINTER! Since it takes 6 months to heal; that'll be May for me which is perfect. Some say not to swim till its healed. I've also heard 2 or 3 months because the chlorine can be good for it and makes it heal faster. I dont know what to believe. Its been 2 months now and I dont know if i want to risk it or not.
kristinlovesyooh1 answered Tuesday June 24 2008, 3:16 pm: ~ No, people say that the clamp was the worsed, but the lady who did mine had to adjust the clam 4! times. Because i have no fat on me. But trust me thats not bad. The part that got me was when the needel whent through at the begining. Nut it doesnt hurt. Trust me! im 14 and i just got it done a week ago.
~ All i said to my mom is... "can i get it pierced if i promise to take care of it, you got it done with my sister, and you will hardly see it. unless im swimming."
~ Depends on what you mean by healing. it might get a little brused. but mine didnt. it was just red. but just clean it 2 or 3 times a day like told, they will tell you how.
~ Swimming wise it wont take more than a month. But be CAREFUL. dont swim if it looks bruised or red. (after the month or so.)
~ To tell you the truth... i would wait till winter, but if you are like me...then do it if you want people to see it. b/c it's WAYY CUTE.
Disconnected answered Saturday May 31 2008, 11:32 am: 1. It depends on the person. I went and got it done with my gay male friend. Whilst his eyes watered, for me it felt like a pinch. It depends on your pain tolerance level.
2. I asked if I dropped 15lbs(much needed back then) I could get and they said yeah, since they thought I never loose that weight :P Btw, you may have to be 18 in some places. Call up a studio and find out.
3.It takes up to a year to heal. Clean it twice a day with sea salt solution(tastes like tears) don't mess with it, and it should be ok :)
4. Can swim, don't suggest diving, clean it right after swimming :)
Basically, find a respected studio by asking friends or going around and seeing if they're clean and if they answer your questions. Don't mess with it when it's healing, and make sure you don't get your clothes caught on it :) [ Disconnected's advice column | Ask Disconnected A Question ]

hollarealwomen answered Thursday May 29 2008, 11:21 pm: 1. yes it hurts very bad
2. that is up to you
3. takes a whiel wi wouldn't know
4. your shoudln't swim because you migh get an infection but if you do swim just put rubbing alchol on it [ hollarealwomen's advice column | Ask hollarealwomen A Question ]
yourrtrustyhelpline answered Thursday May 29 2008, 7:20 pm: 1. well it really depends on how much pain you can handle, but for the most part, it won't hurt. i didn't think it hurt, and everybody i know that got it done said it didn't hurt. you just have to remember to breathe throughout the process because if you don't you may faint.
2. i didn't convince my parents to let me get it pierced, i went with an older friend of mine, so i can't help you there.
3. it takes anywhere from 6 to 8 months to heal completely, it all depends on how fast you heal.
4. you shouldn't swim, at least for the first 6 months because there is a risk of infection, so i suggest that if you do want to swim, you should just wait until fall to get it pierced. [ yourrtrustyhelpline's advice column | Ask yourrtrustyhelpline A Question ]
pinkpolkadots answered Thursday May 29 2008, 7:17 pm: 1. The actual piercing part of it doesn't hurt that bad, but for a few days to a week after it will get really sore.
2. I live with just my dad, and somehow we got on the topic of piercings, and I said I wanted my nose and my navel pierced. He said he didn't want me to get my nose done. So I said fine, if you sign the papers so I can get my navel done before I'm 18, then I won't do my nose. And he said that he would. I was 15 at the time. That may not work for you if you have stricter parents though.
3. When I got it pierced, they said it could take anywhere from 2-12 months to heal, even longer if it got infected. And they said that the navel is one of those places that healing time really varies from person to person. I took pretty good care of it and mine took 4 months.
4. I cannot stress this enough: WAIT UNTIL THE FALL! One of my friends told me this when I was going to get mine done and it was the BEST advice I could have taken when getting it pierced. You CANNOT swim until it's fully healed because of the chlorine in pools and salt and bacteria in the ocean. If you wait until the fall, that gives you the whole summer to look cute in a bathing suit (without having to worry about your red, sensitive navel) and then you'll have all winter to heal and then next spring, hopefully, you'll be all healed and ready to look cute with your new navel piercing. You asked how long you have to wait to swim, it's however long it takes you to heal.
