what to wear for graduation underneath the gown

Question Posted Friday May 23 2008, 11:33 pm

Well, I'm graduating from high school on June 10th. We will be wearing caps and gowns, but I'm not sure what to wear underneath and for shoes. I don't know how long the gowns are supposed to be (all the teachers are less than helpful) but I'm guessing pants or jeans won't be appropriate.

Also, do the caps fall off? Should I bring some bobby pins to pin it to my head?

Also, I don't even know what color the gowns are, (again, everyone is less than helpful), so what would be some good shoe color choices? And types of shoes.

Thank you!

so.
the best thing to wear underneath, is something a bit low cut (halters would prolly not wise...) but nothing too drastic, it's your graduation. make sure it's a cute dress, though, bc you will be taking lots of pics and you want to look your best.
shoes.
the best shoes to wear would be some nice black pumps. an open toed one would be even cuter, heels make anything cuter, and black is a staple.
enjoy your graduation!

Well, when I graduated I wore a skirt that went a little past my knees and a kinda dressy, casual shirt.

No one is really going to see what is under your gown until after the graduation ceremony when you return the gown, then you're just going to be visiting with your friends and probably taking pictures.

As of shoes, I wore high hills, but if your scared you're going to fall or you have a hard time walking in hills. Wear some comfy flats they're dressy and your not going to fall and embarrass yourself. Unless you trip over your own feet lol but I hope you don't :)

Oh and you probably will wanna bobby pin your cap down, just in case =]
I wish you the best of luck though and hopefully I helped

No one will be able to see what you're wearing under your gown. So just wear a nice dress that goes down to your knees. Since you don't know what your gown will look like, you might have a full length gown, or a gown down to your calfs. So it's best to just be on the safe side and go with a knee length dress, or skirt.

As for shoes, white, brown, or black dressy shoes would go nicely with any color they throw at you.

And finally, I wouldn't pin your cap to your head. They do stay fairly well, that is, assuming you don't have some crazy hair style like a beehive. Besides, after the whole class graduates you'll all want to throw your caps up into the air to celebrate(it's a tradition). So bobby pins would hinder that just a bit.

Don't stress out over it too much. It's a time to celebrate and have fun!

We got our caps and gowns before graduation. The gowns are normally about calf length. I didn't bobby pin mine, but I didn't have my hair done all up, either- it was straight.
I wore shorts under mine. Nobody knows what you're wearing, because until you decide to take off your gown, that is all anyone will see outside of your shoes.
If you don't pick out colors as a class, generally you will be dressed in school colors.

i loved my graduation :) well lets see some schools have school colors as their color of gown but most dont in NEVADA that is. so try asking you class around maybe they can help teachers just arent that great. what i wore underneath was a black short dress with black shoes. but our gown was white so we got lucky :)
-your gown should be the height you are.
-caps depend on your hairstyle your doing (just in case id bring some)
-your outfit make sure its not to long of a dress nor a skirt (a dress up to your knees well do) you can find them at any store in any color
-shoes id go with black or white (goes with everything) (heel) shoes not to big of heel or too little
-you shouldnt worry to much on your outfit bc the people watching you graduate will see you in your cap and gown but us girls have to look good hehe so hope i helped hun good luck and HAPPY GRADUATION CLASS OF 2008!!!
