i had a super tampon in today for around 8 hours and today was my last day of my period so i had very little blood. am i at a high risk of toxic shock syndrome? if i took the tampon out around 7:30, how long would it be until the symptoms started to show (if i had tss)?
TSS is a staph infection from bacteria. When the blood stays on the cotton for too long and dries, it can cause this bacteria which leads to TSS.
I've known girl that have left there tampons in overnight, 2 days, 1 week.. and still have been alright-- but it's definitely not logical. 8 hours with a super sounds like you'll be good to go.
TSS comes quick.. so if any of the symptoms listed on the other answer given to you begin to happen, get to the Emergency room.
teardrops7 answered Saturday May 24 2008, 10:59 am: everyone has that risk, if you wear a tampon.
but if you get:
-a sudden fever
-vomiting
-diherrea
-fainting
-dizzy
-something that looks like a sunburn
then you need to go to the doctor asap..

I do not know ALOT about the syndrome but I do know that if you start feeling sick, like you have a fever go to your doctor. The symptoms may start soon or later depends on how your body reacts. I say that if for about a week you feel fine, your probably okay. But if you do start feeling like you have a fever go to your doctor. Don't worry or stress about it, if you do stress you may worry yourself sick. Just relax. My period is VERY awkward, sometimes in the middle of my week I stop bleeding and just spot the whole day, and I wear a tampon so sometimes I remove the tampon dry. So don't stress, if you are still worried after about a week or so, go to the doctor anyway. Better safe than sorry. What i can reccommend is that you wear a pad when you sleep and/or pantiliners at the end of your period. Also, there is somethings called instead. You should look it up. It is used instead of a pad or tampon. I tried it and I think its good, they just don't sell at the shoppers drug mart I go to anymore. Anyways I hope I helped, and rememebr don't stress about it.
