Tank Tops

Question Posted Wednesday April 23 2008, 1:03 am

I am 13 if that helps any and I never wear tank tops well only to layer under my t-shirts. And I kinda want to try wearing them like with layering them with t-shirts. I am kinda average on the weight scale. But I'm kind of afraid of what people think. I know that is wrong to think but its hard not to. And I'm shy and unpopular. I know I shouldn't care what people think of me but its really hard. So please help me gain some confidence and let me know if you think it would be ok for me to wear them. Thanks so much!

i dont think there is anything wrong with being concerned with what people think of you! i normally dont like wearing tank tops either. im not even sure why.

umm i think i would start off with a thicker strap just because it normally fits the dress code better. other than that i think your fine. i mean what are people going to say to you if you do wear one? nothing!

Well, first let me say that it's no crime to care what people think of you. Everyone cares what others think of them, whether they admit it or not. It's totally normal! But in this case, I think you're worrying unnecessarily. If you were wanting to wear a clown suit or a toga, then yeah, people might talk. But tank tops are really popular; everyone wears them! So I doubt anyone will take much notice at all. But to make yourself more comfortable, here's a few ideas:

Shop carefully. Tank tops come in a lot of different styles and fabrics, and some will look better on you than others. Try on a bunch and see which kind looks best on you. When you find some that you're comfortable with, start by wearing them around the house, or when you go out with just your family; then when you're with your close friends. Eventually you'll become more and more comfortable with it.

You're worried about wearing a tank top!?
Stop stressing over something so silly :P
Everyone wears tank tops no matter their size because they work well with most clothing.
To start off, try wearing them on their own around the house - just to feel comfortable enough in them.
Or, wear a tank top and then put a fashionable cardigan over the top, so you don't feel so bare.
You'll get used to them and you won't feel so self conscious.
Plus, summer's coming up - so it will be cooler.
Be brave, be bold and go for it!
