Ashobi answered Sunday September 7 2008, 11:13 am: First of all, as a Christian believer I must say, that the prediction of the end of the world in 2012 seems really absurd. I know some people have a tendency to try and predict things but you have to look at facts, look at what goes on around you. Look at ancient Prophesy my suggestion( the Bible) The Bible does in differtent verses tell about the things that are going on right now that signal the end of the world. So let me reassure your safety if you do the following: Accept Jesus as your Lord and savior. He's the passage way out of what lies at the end of the world. If you make the decison don't do it based on fear. Do it because you truly belive it. [ Ashobi's advice column | Ask Ashobi A Question ]
barneyrocks answered Friday June 6 2008, 2:37 am: haha. i heard that before too.
the reason some people believe that is because some indians predicted something[can't remember what it was] using the stars and it came true. then they predicted the year of the resurrection being 2012. it's funny because the bible says nobody will know when the resurrection will come, so obviously it is just a myth. also you don't need to worry because the bible also said the resurrection will come when there are as many people as the grains of sand on the earth. i feel the resurection will be soon, but not that soon. i believe after the resurection, you know how God said next time he'll destroy the earth with fire, well i think that will happen when the ozone layer gets too hot. Shadowfox answered Monday April 28 2008, 1:30 am: as stated before, NO one knows when the the "end of the world" will come. I but it is not to be feared, time is running out, that is for sure, but we still have time. I'll give you some reason why, the too many things have been left undone. God made many promices that havn't come about yet, many have but many have not.
I also want to point out something. when in kindergarden you had a begining and an end, it was probley scary leaveing and moving on. after kindergarden you had/will have 1st-12th each year doing the same as the last, when graditaion day come, Post-grads chool is follow (assumming you don't want to flip burgurs your whole life). when post-grad school is over do you ever stop learning? the anwser is no, we learn our whole lives (if we allow ourselves to). this life as we know it will have an end, but it will only lead to new beginings.
I advice to you is to relax and live today, preparing for the time to come (because it could end sooner than you think).
dooditsemily answered Friday April 18 2008, 6:41 pm: no one knows when jesus will come again (which is when the world will end). he could come at anytime, he could come right now! its in the bible in revelation. dont worry! it might end in 2012, nobody knows, including your friend. she probably heard it from her parents or some of her other friends and is just repeating it to you. but seriously, do not worry. DramaQueen63 answered Thursday April 17 2008, 4:41 pm: Don't worry.
I have heard that the world was gonna end in 2007, then sometime in 2006. No one really knows when the world will end.
And ask your friend nicely to prove it to you or something like that.
Alin75 answered Tuesday April 1 2008, 4:47 pm: Ok console yourself with the fact that the end of the world has been predicted over and over and over. Yet we are still here.
People have interpreted and reinterpreted predictions from people like Nostradamus, they have trembled with fear at every freakin turn of the century (lets not even talk about millenuim).
So, there must come a point when one realises that these people's track record is lousy. There is no need to buy into this nonsense.
But if you really want to talk to your friend ask him to explain this rationally. Ask for hard evidence and other things that one must provide when one presents a theory, let alone a fact. If he cannot provide this then his words are meaningless. You may not be able to make him see that (people choose to believe all sorts of illogical rubbish), but at least you will know there is nothing to worry about.
Good luck.
Oh by the way. If I were you I would get him to put money on this. Think about it, if he is daft enough you to agree you will be in a no lose situation. If the world does not end you can make a nice profit, while if it does we will all be dead anyways :D [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]
Razhie answered Tuesday April 1 2008, 4:40 pm: Are you getting this from the Mayan predictions of end of the age of the 5th Sun?
The end of the 5th Sun is a date figured out by Mayan astrologers ages ago and has to do with the movement of Venus through the sky. Other cultures were always watching the sky, so they came up with similar signifigant dates... well, some of them did. Some of the other things you read online is just pure nonsense.
So the late Mayan calendar is ending, and then it enters a new epoch, just the same as our calendar changing from 2004 to 2005. Their epoch is just waaaaay longer then our year.
So is the world going to end? Well, that isn't what the Mayans predicted at all. Big Changes, sure. When you have a calendar that spans thousands of years you can see a lot of big changes. But Big Death, not so much.
Interestingly, it will happen at the same time as the next peak in solar sunspots does. So what does that mean? Not too much. The sun will over heat temporally and the last time that happened, in the 1960's, there was actually less natural disasters like earthquakes and eruptions then normal.
You might also have heard that the magnetic field around the earth is going to stop, fail, flip upside down, fail, whatever, causing us all to die. Absolutely freaking nonsense. The magnetic poles shift a bit regularly, with limited effect on the planet as a whole. Our magnetic field remains strong and protects us. There are theories that they once 'flipped' and south became north, once before, but the time of that supposed 'flip' doesn't even coincide with any major ecological disaster, just the normal extinction rates that go along with normal climate changes.
Do you remember all the fuss people made about the world ending in 1999, and then the fuss again in 2000 and 2001 (because there is no year 0 right?) or all the bull shit about Y2K?
Besides, if we are all going to die, while there aint a damn thing you can do about it, and it might happen tomorrow for all the good it does us to know about it! So relax. [ Razhie's advice column | Ask Razhie A Question ]
