This one comes down to biology. As we approach the right age we naturally become more attracted to the opposite sex. It is what ensures that our species survives.

Very little in nature happens by chance. At an early age there is no need for this attraction, since we have not yet matured and developed the ability to have children.

In 5- 7th grade guys really didnt want to have anything to do with you. It was no act. They had not yet developed the capacity for that kind of attraction. As they reach their sexual peak they should become more and more interested. Guys tend to peak by their early twenties if memory serves.

Its just the way things work, not just for us but many other species as well. The behaviour is regulated by the hormones that are released with sexual maturity.

It's called growing up. Guys at this age are finally seeing girls in a different way, and you've probably matured and grown too. They now see you as a possible girlfriend, not just 'that girl from that place...'
