My boyfriend is 23 years old, 5'10" and about 150 pounds. He really wants to gain weight, and so far nothing has worked. I cook him healthy fatty meals like veggies and nuts and avocado, but he also eats fast food once a day and other very high fat unhealthy choices. He also drinks at least a half gallon of whole milk a day. For a while we were keeping track of his calorie intake and most days it was between 3000-6000. He works as a car mechanic and does not do any other physical activity after he gets home from work. We cannot understand why he does not gain weight! Please help.
I know the type, one of my best friends is like that. He can eat like a swine and remain a tiny little Ghandi-like figure (he actually is Indian btw). Now I couldnt get my friend to stick with the gym, but in the 4 months or so that he did come, there were results.
So, the key is a high calorie diet combined with a weight training routine based on big compound lifts (e.g. squats, deadlifts, bench presses, rows, presses, etc.).
At least thats the healthy way, and it will give him strength and energy to spare as well. If he is interested and needs advice on how to start you can drop me a question if you like.
