ok well im 16 not getting engaged or atleast not this year im hoping but i just realized my 16 year old friend is engaged and i was wondering is it possible to get engaged under 18 with parents against it??
In the UK they could get married at that age with their parents against it - I take it that's not the case in the states?
But as for engagement, you could get engaged at any age, it's not a legal or official declaration as marriage is its just two people saying "we plan to get married".
orphans answered Wednesday February 27 2008, 6:42 pm: its possible to get engaged under 18. all it takes is a ring, or not even, and then you just say your engaged. that easy.
and you also CAN get maried under 18 years old. your parents have to consent:

being engaged isnt a legal term, whereas marriage is.
hope that answers your questionn and if now you can ask me a question at my inbox. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
Razhie answered Wednesday February 27 2008, 5:12 pm: Anyone can walk around and call themselves engaged. You can call yourself 'engaged' just as simply as you can call yourself 'pokadotted'. It's not a legal thing.
But you wont be recognized by the government as affianced (in court or in immigration proceedings as an example) until you are over 18, and you cannot be married under 18 unless you parents consent to it. [ Razhie's advice column | Ask Razhie A Question ]
