i kno w what you mean. i didnt work until i was 18 because i didnt want anything to do with fast food. this past summer i found a tennis instructor job. i made 12 an hour! it was tons of fun and well above NY minimum wage. i currently work in the recreation department of a nursing home. i help with activities and visiting the residents. its so much fun.

so look in the newspapers for jobs that look fun and fit your interests. are you a people person?then the jobs i mentioned along with front desk worker at a hotel, daycamp counselor, lifeguard, etc. i dont know if your live in a small town or large area, but if there are theme parks around, hotels, camps, resorts, or a blockbuster. i always wanted to work there..free movie rentals :) lol i found the jobs i really liked by just reading the help wanted ads whenever i could.

think about where you would enjoy working around your area and be aggressive about it. what i mean by that is ask if they are hiring, fill out applications, call them, etc.

A typical job for someone your age that is not retail is a lifeguard! I don't know, it really depends on the area you live in and what is available. I suggest checking out websites like craigslist and yahoo for job postings! Also check your school and and other poster boards for listings! Good luck!

I work at a greenhouse with a gift shop, and I love it! I've been working there for about two years, started when I was 14. I'm not big into plants or anything, but I've learned a lot and lots of nice, non-complaining people come in. Best of all, I never work past 7, so my nights/weekends are always free. Check it out in your area!

How about you ask if your parents can help you out with that? For example, maybe one of their friends can find you a place of a secretary in the company they work in.

How about a grocery store? There's several different jobs to be done at a grocery store. Bagging groceries, working the cash register, etc.
Also, what about a place like Walmart or something?

Hope this gave you a few suggestions. Good luck with job hunting.
