bad hair.

Question Posted Friday February 15 2008, 5:43 am

I've dyed AND bleached my hair so much in the past that I gave it a break for almost a year. So my hair grew out from bleached streaks and a bob. I probably dyed it twice during the growing out stage because the bleached parts resurfaced over and over. So I'm asking for some help to get beautiful hair. My hair is to my boobs now and it's curly. I got a perm for christmas to get a loose curl. My hair naturally is curly/wavy but it forms knots, you know? >_< My hair was fine but now it's just going back to knots. Sometimes I try straightening it but it just comes out as bad Hermione hair. I mean it looks fried even though I use some hair product in it and it's completely dry. Right now, my hair is a light brown towards my roots and it gets darker as it goes down. I really want to dye it all a chocolate brown but get it professionally done.. Would that be a good idea use a little of bleach?

I really need help lol. What are some good products to use for knotty, damaged, dry hair?

Frizz serums? Heat activated sprays? Deep conditioners? I really want to get the color fixed but should I wait it out? It looks like I tried going blonde :S Or should I just use a color stripper again?

I'm on a low budget so if there's anything I can put together at home, it would be great =P

You REALLY need to get all of the product out of your hair. That is what is weighing it down and unhealthy. To do so, while you are in the shower before you wash your hair, take some Baking Soda and wet it a bit. Then smooth it around in your hair. After that wash and condition it as usual. The baking soda will get rid of all the product that is caught in your hair.

You should probably find a rich conditioner, and use it from roots to tips. Also, it would be very wise to not color it at all for a while, since that is what is killing your hair.

Think of your hair like a piece of silk. When it first grows in it is soft and pretty, but after brushing it, washing it, combing it, straightening, blowdrying; it becomes torn and brittle, and looses it's sheen.

You need to start treating your hair better if you want it to look nice. After you wash your hair and what not, let it towel dry.

Leave in conditioner is your best bet. Usually they are around 10-12 dollars. Getting your hair trimmed would also help, since it would get rid of most of your dead ends and preventing your hair from splitting.

Just remember coloring is fun until the after effects start to show.

Here are some things you can do at home for your hair.

It sounds like your hair has had a lot of product on it. Hair color and perms are fun, but only in moderation. I learned this the hard way. I started getting perms (my hair is also naturally wavy) at the age of 5, up unitl about 20. I don't perm my hair anymore, but I still color it. I wish that I would have let it grow out to it's natural color when I was younger, because now I dye it to cover the gray. I use biologe shampoo and conditioner...this helps to put moisture back into it. Also, I use a silcone based product (silking gloss) to aid in the detangling and for the dry-frizziness that my hair loves to have. LOL. This may sound weird, but if your hair is really dry and unmanagable (Hermione hair), lather your hair with mayonaise and leave it in for about an hour...then wash it out. This will put back some moisture and shine. As far as repairing the damage, you can go to your local hair salon and they can suggest a deep leave-in conditioning treatment. These are usually only about $10-$20 to buy. Some salons charge around the same price to do the treatment for you. That will help with the damaged hair follicles. I would also suggest doing the conditioning treatments until the color has grown out more and your hair gets stronger. If you continue to color and perm your hair without giving it a break and putting back what the chemicals have taken out- I CAN PROMISE you that your hair WILL start to fall out. Stay safe and good luck.
