I rip my hair out

Question Posted Thursday February 14 2008, 11:21 am

I never noticed it, but my mom pointed out that I rip the hair out of my head and arms. I don't know what's wrong with me. She says I do it all the time, not just when I'm stressed. I haven't noticed any bald spots..yet. Does anyone know what's wrong or what I could do about it?

It is called Trichotillomania.
You aren't the only one to have
the disorder, if it is indeed what
you have.

Here are some websites that can give you
more information on the disorder. If
you feel you have these same symptoms,
see your doctor for treatment options. :)

It's hard to make a diagnoses over the internet but I'll try...

It sounds like you have an actual disease. Now, I'm going to sound like an idiot, but I cannot for the life of me remember what exactly it's called. I know it starts with trillo and ends with mania, with maybe something in between. (Okay, I sound like a complete moron now, but whatever). Oprah did a show on it and it was in Seventeen magazine. For whatever reason, this disease causes people to quite literally tear their hair out. There are no known cures but therapy can help.

You should see a medical professional right away. The girl on the Oprah show went through years of being miserable, trying to cover it with weaves and wigs, before her family convinced her to seek therapy. Please, don't let that happen to you. Believe me, it will only get worse.

i know its definately mental. not in a bad way, but maybe you should talk about this on something different, cause you and i are sharing the same thing. i pull mine out too. i think it would be good for both of us to talk. i dont pull out my hair on my arms or anything, just my head. but heres my info if you want to talk more... some of my questions i will need personal info. i'll try to help as best as i can once i get it. and i'll also need you to be honest cause i can probably help. also, you need to see a psycologist or something. that will also help.
all of my info is in my profile.
my email is:

if for some reason you cant get to it.
