running in place

i have been running outside for about 2 weeks but its been cold lately and i just get bored from running outside so i was wondering if i could just run in the same place for like 30 minutes.. would that be the same kinda? if not, how is it different?

It's not exactly the same because if you are actually running, you use your muscles to propel yourself forward, which doesn't quite occur while jogging in place.

Anyway, I think that would still be fine if you jogged in place. You know there are exercise tapes where you walk in place for so long while doing different things with your arms. They have 1 mile, 2 mile, and 3 mile versions. That might be something you could look into if you want to start exercising indoors.

It wouldn't be the same, but it's still good for you.
Running and walking outside, you go across different types of terrains. You go up hill, down hill, on pavement, through gravel, etc., whereas indoors you are running in one place on a flat surface.
