birth control

Question Posted Sunday February 10 2008, 7:14 pm

hey! i am not yet 18 but my boyfriend and i have been talking about having sex soon in the safest possible way. i dont want to bring this up with my mom (i do talk to her about things but i dont think she would understand this one.. and im not asking about how to tell her) but im just wondering any other ways i could let her get me birth control. for example... my period is irregular so i asked to use it to make it more regular so it doesnt just surprise me.. any other ideas would be great!!

thanks!

hey :) well i have been on birth control for about two years now. i just told my mom, "my periods are really bad and heavy and so can we please go to the doctor to see what they can do for me" and so we did! the doctor told me that you dont get as bad cramps and you are on a time schedule so you know exactly when your going to get your period! this was before i started having sex, but now i can also be safe too! if you need any more ways, let me know

Okay, I know this isn't what you want to hear. but, if you are mature enough to have sex in your opinion, then you should be mature enough to talk to your mom about it. Tell her straight up, "Mom, I'm think of having sex. I want to be safe. Is there anyway that you would put me on birth control?" This will probably make her really likely to say yes, because you did the mature thing.

Any birth control ad will list all the possible positives. Period regulation, clearing up acne, lessening of cramps, etc.

My girlfriend is suggesting one she used (though she and her mother had already confronted sexual activity at the time) is that she told her mother she wasnt having sex but that she knew she would eventually and it would be alot more awkward if she came and asked then, rather than now when it wasnt really an issue.

You might want to visit planned parenthood's website and see if theres an office near you. You might even be able to get low cost birth control from them, possibly without your mother's knowledge. Depends on age and local/state laws about it.

telling her that your period is irregular and that why you think you should go on the pill would be a good thing to say. Another would be that you have been getting really bad cramps, thats why i went on the pill and i dont know if you have acne problems but birth control does wonders to clear up acne. ohh and i completly forgot. if you go to a gynocologist (i think i spelled that wrong) then you can tell he or she that you and your boyfriend are having sex and you want to take b.c they can write you a perscription and they have to keep it confidential. Also if you go to planned parent hood you can get b.c for free up to your 18. hope this helped hun =)

That's your best option other than being honest.

Just be sure that even on birth control, you both need to get into the habit of practicing safe sex by always using condoms.
Condoms are the only thing that protects against STDs.
