Good vocabulary words

Question Posted Saturday February 9 2008, 9:21 pm

Can you list some really good words that would make a story a lot better if I included them? I need to keep in mind that every once in a while I should put in a word that's maybe difficult but very expressive and maybe gives off a noticeable meaning like grotesque.

Atleast 5 words would be good. Thank you.

**thesaurus

Basically, you're asking for descriptive words that stand out.

Heinous
Pertain
Prodigious
Extraordinary
Staggering
Execrable
Grim
Odious
Captivating
Gratifying
Stunning
Delicate
Devout
Seraphic
Perspicacious
Rational
Endow
Facile

I used thesaurus.com. Just type in a simple word [example: kind], and you will get many results.

Oh, and it's also very crucial to use the words in the right context.

it all depends what your story is about.
like is it an essay? or something else.
honestly, when im writing essays and i want them to sound more 'professional' then i find a little word i dont like, and i just right click it and go to synonyms and pick a better word choice for it.
for instance, instead of using better in a sentance, id put improved or enhanced.
but if you still need help just give me the topic of your story and i can try to think of some!
good luck.
xoxo.
