stop smoking

Question Posted Sunday February 3 2008, 7:07 am

i decided to stop smoking cigarettes -after 3 failed attempts-on friday. Its sunday today and ive started revising for exams. The thing is..i need a cig', and i dont want the feeling of needing one to put me off the work i have. So what do you lot think i should do? carry on smoking till june/july when the exams are completely finished, or stop smoking and let it affect my exams and revision, because the exams start in march....

i know how this is. my feeling is there will always be something going on..exams now..maybe in july/august there will be other stresses. dont use that as an excuse. physical withdrawal symptoms last 3 days. the rest is all psychological. i find that visiting messaging boards offers support, people share techniques/tips, chew gum, keep busy, and remember this..cravings last 3 minutes! so next time your craving, just keep an eye on the clock you'll see! i know i didnt beleive it at first either but its true! here are great sites to check out...

It would be better and healthier if you quit now. Withdrawl will be very hard though. You will often find yourself needing a cig. When you feel a craving chew gum, tic tacs, or various types of hard candy instead. This will keep your mouth busy.

are you quitting cold turkey?
there are other ways to quit, my step dad is in the process of quitting and he uses the nicotine gum and so far ( a couple of months now) its going really good for him. its hard for everyone. don't give in to the cravings. they will just make you weaker. and also my uncle has decided to quit (also a couple a months ago) and takes pills to block the nicotine so every time he smokes it won't affect him and it eventually makes you wanna give up on smoking because you aren't getting the buzz/satisfaction. it made him really moody, though.
i'd recomend the nicotine gum since it gives you something to do with your mouth to keep you busy. and it costs about as much as cigarettes. but i understand if you are unable to do either one of those choices financially.
i am glad you are quitting smoking though, great choice =]
but you should just stop smoking now, the more you smoke the harder it will be to quit when that time comes.

hope i helped & good luck.
Jess
