my windows xp laptop is (was) connected to Linksys. it was working fine and now i cant get on the internet!!!
when i hover over the local area connection it says network cable unplugged...and when i hover over the wireless network connection it says not connected. there are 2 laptops in the house, and the main computor works fine with internet. the laptops are both wireless, and one of them works with the internet still right now.
when i click view available wireless connections, the screen says: windows cannot configure this wireless connection.
also, when i right click on the icon and click repair it says connecting, but then says: windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: connecting to the wireless network
IM NOT GOOD WITH COMPUTORS! STEP BY STEP WOULD HELP! AND THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!
3. click on network and internet connections>>
(now it'll say,on the second half of the page,"or
pick a control panel icon" )
4.click on network connections>>
5. Now, you'll be on your network connections.

**IF YOU SEE A CONNECTION called "1394 Connection"**
*************************************
if you don't,skip down to step 8!
**************************************
6 this is probably the reason for a slow and annoying connection =//.
6 A)Click on the connection only once, so its highlighted in blue.
6 B)There will be a Blue Box called "Net work Tasks" on the side of your page
6 C)Double Click on the "Change settings of this connection" with the check mark next to its name. it should be VERY last task there
6 D)Now that your there, You'll see a Box come up that says "1394 Connection Properties"
6 E)Stay on the tab that says "general"
6 F)You see the text just under the tab labled general? It should say "connect using:"
6 G)You'll see a "CONFIGURE.." Button next to the "connect using:" Box. Click on that.
6 H)Click on the tab labeled "DRIVER"
6 I)There will be four buttons you can click on, but the one you want to click on will say "uninstall driver". Once you click on it something will pop up, just click "okay"
7 Soooo now that(what i think is a virus) is gone, you can EXIT out of it,and go back to steps 1-5. Dont worry if "a wireless network cable is unplugged" ;; it says that on mine AND my friends laptop too.
Now i'm going to continue with the following steps After this, but
**********************************************
*****IF YOU DID NOT SEE A CONNECTION CALLED "1394",********
this is what you should be reading after step 5*!.
8. Okayy, so steps 1-5 brought you to the network connections. Now click on "WIRELESS Network Connection"
9. Click "view wireless networks" Try to connect to your wireless router (for example, mine is called a belkin. so i'd connect to "the belkin54")
Its not as good to connect to linksys, because linksys is just the network that is for all laptops, but not a real reliable connection.
AHHHH , so many steps!
I REALLLY hope i helped, because i know how its so frustrating when you get that "server not found" page! haha. if you have more questions about this, write to my inbox and i'll deffinatly help you.
mistaric answered Sunday February 3 2008, 10:27 pm: mine did this
i'm assuming you use a router. you unplug the white cord in the back of the router, first (the phone jack one) and plug it back in, and then you unplug the black one, and plug it back in. then restart your laptop and it should work. [ mistaric's advice column | Ask mistaric A Question ]
