Back when they started, it was just a different style of punk music [horror punk] for kids to listen to rather than most of the punk bands that were about anarchy and social commentary. I wouldn't call them satanic at all. The lyrics are not "evil", often they're really hilarious, sarcastic, and totally horrendous yet great at the same time. The people that really like The Misfits find a dark humor in their lyrics that was their own original style.
Songs like 'last caress' ["I got something to say, I killed a baby today and it doesn't matter much to me as long as it's dead"] aren't meant to be serious. It's not like danzig went out and killed some babies and smiled about it haha. It's just a type of humor that not everyone appreciates. [ denialsam's advice column | Ask denialsam A Question ]
