Read my answer here for a comparison between the two:

And in case you missed it at the link above, *almost all Windows programs will not work on a mac*. Paint, photoshop, Internet Explorer, and all of your games will not work. Any programs your school gives you will not work.

Vista does suck, but you will still be able to use XP for the next 5-10 years. I recommend downgrading to XP for right now, and then deciding later.

I really like Windows XP. I think it is a fine, mostly slim OS. I use XP instead of others because:
-Older versions of Windows are unsupported and dangerous
-Macs are built for people who don't like messing with computers. I don't want my computer to "just work", I want to modify it so that it works perfectly, the way I want it.
-Vista is too bulky, and, while it offers the same options as XP, it makes it harder to get to them.
-I've used Gentoo, Debian, and Ubuntu linux, and none of them were good enough to sacrifice Windows-only programs. I found myself using the command line way more than I wanted to. I can handle it no problem, but it is an inconvienience I don't have to live with, and so I won't. When linux OSes mature to the point where command-line usage is only needed the same amount or less than Windows, I will be ready to move to them. Hopefully that will be before I am "required" to use Vista.

oh mac for sure.
they're a bit more expensive but they last about 10 times as long.

mac's new OS (operating system) is currently able to run both windows as well, mac's laptops are much smaller.

mac's OS is also pretty much invincible- there are very, very few viruses that are on macs, as opposed to the millions on windows.

microsoft just doesnt try to please their customer. they say "our computers are cheaper" but you end up spending hundreds on virus protection and firewalls etc, when macs come built in with everything and dont get viruses.

now, i've used macs all my life so this is kinda a one sided opinion, but i think you get my point.

collin.
