sat reading section

Question Posted Thursday January 31 2008, 4:07 pm

im really bad at the reading section on the SAT especially when i have to fill in the blanks with words that i barely even recognize. so i was wondering if there were any tricks that can make this easier for me or any tips? and also what are some ways to make my SAT scores higher, other than classes. thank you!`

damn i hate that section and i sucked at it first time i did the sat test, but i realized that the only true way to pass this section is to practice it like hell and time yourself!TIMING is mad important cuz when you spend too much time on one question youll have no time for the others! For the vocabulary, what i used to do is like get new vocabulary words everyday that i didnt know and memorize them, get like 20.Itll definetly help, and when i took courses they said that there are root words you should know thatll help you guess, these are the prefixes, suffixes and root of every word, they usually mean something. For the passages this needs practice alotttt. You need a clear head and pay attention to what your reading, ask yourself whats this author talkin about, hows he feel about it.good luck^_^

okay, so here's what I did in seventh & eighth & ninth & tenth grades (PSAT!)
you come to a problem that has a bunch of words you dont know. One or two you either know or think you know what they mean- but they dont fit. Cross them out. (physically, if allowed)
then look at the roots of the other words. Those can often help you to get a little of the definition out of the word. Choose which one is more the more logical of the remaining answers. When (if) you go back to check your answers, do not change the answer on the ones you didnt know in the first place, unless you remembered what one word meant and it fits. Often your first impression is better than the second time around.
hope something in there helped- & good luck. :]
