im tired of taking BC pills everyday to prevent pregnancy. Isnt there like a shot i can get from my doctor that will prevent me from getting pregnant for like 5 years no matter if i use protection or not?
nmggrant answered Wednesday January 30 2008, 2:19 am: Yeah, Even if your on birth control, it does not protect you from any sort of std...just becasue you get the shot, you still need to use a condom, It's the ONLY thing that will protect you from a sexually transmitted disease. You get a shot every three months, and there is another thing that will protect you for like 2 or 3 years. It is a little rod that they implant in your arm, and it stays there until you are ready to take it out. The shot lasts for three months, then you have to get a new one.
Next thing, you can't just go to any doctor to do this. You have to go to a gynecologist.
but remember, not any kind of birth control is 100% effective. There is always the chance of getting pregnant, so use protection whether you are using BC or not, so you don't have to worry.
Hope I helped,

Cherry_Blow_Pop answered Tuesday January 29 2008, 2:11 pm: You get the shot every 3 months. My friend was on it though, and still ended up getting pregnant, because there is no way to tell how fast or slow it will run through someones body. A lot of my friends who are or were on it didn't like what it did to them. Messed them up pretty bad, a lot of spotting, weight gain, etc. But if you are really against the pills, then go for it. It reacts different with everyone. I just wanted to make sure you hear both sides. :) Good luck.
Be sure to research your options before making a choice, so you know you are making a choice that best fits you and your needs.
Also remember that the only thing that protects you from STDs are condoms. You should always practice safe sex, even when on birth control. You are worth it to protect yourself.
AdviceAsh answered Tuesday January 29 2008, 5:56 am: I know how you feel. It's a pain remembering it everyday at the same time and if you miss just one you could get pregnant. There is a shot you can get though. I'm 99% sure it's every 6 months. It has about the same effect that birth control pills have. It's around 98% effective, so just in case, you might want to have him wear a condom or have a back up. No birth control method is 100% effective. It's a natural effect to having sex so you can't really stop it fully. Just talk to your gyno/doctor/planned parenthood about you switching to a different method. They'll be happy that your being responsible enough to say "This everyday thing is too much, i don't want to take any chances". Remember to ask them ANY questions you have about the shot.
