Dishcharge and a cold.

Question Posted Tuesday January 8 2008, 6:47 pm

I've had a bad head cold for about a week now (stuffy nose, cough, sinus pressure, sore throat) and tonight I noticed my discharge was slightly resembling the texture of cottage cheese. I remembered that texture was a sign of an infection or problem. I'm wondering if my cold has any connection to a possible vagina infection? I'm planning on seeing a doctor but I wanna know what to tell my mom I'm going for.

While the cold doesn't have a direct influence on your discharge, there can be a connection. You likely have a yeast infection. While your body was busy fighting the cold, other areas got neglected enough by your immune system for infection to take over. Go to a doctor for an official diagnosis and medication. And the doctor can recommend an OTC treatment for future infections.

Every girl's discharge varies in consistency and texture slightly from time to time. This can be for a variety of reasons: food and drink, daily routine, cycle, etc. Typically, a common cold does NOT cause that kind of discharge.

Usually, cottage cheese indicates a yeast or vaginal infection. You'll want to go ahead and go to a doctor ASAP and they can prescribe the proper medication to treat that.

It should clear up in a few weeks after that. :)
