computer virus...??? please help!!!
i was on myspace one day when my spyware thingy popped up and notified me that it had expired, and all this techincal stuff i didnt understand. then something else popped up with the options "allow instalation" or "block instalation". i had no idea what this was so i kept clicking X. now, my computer is really messed up. the icons and start menu only show up when i 1st turn on the computer, then they disapear. just a minute ago, i was randomly taken to this website where it said my PC was infected or something, and it wanted me to run some kind of performace optimizer. (performanceoptimizer.com) i didnt do it becuase i wasnt sure. what should i do....? HELP!

sounds more like adware than a virus, though those links angelofmercy gave are good as well, you need to run spybot

update it after downloading before running the first time. then run the immunization, that should keep your computer relatively adware/spyware free

Never click on any pop-ups on your computer. Most are tracking devices that give you spyware and viruses. I would suggest going to this website, it will run a virus scanner on your computer and give you options to go from there. It is a free service. Also, a very good free antivirus program can be found on the second link to ensure safety of your computer. Good Luck!!
