I am trying out for High School Musical (not the movie, the play.) I have no idea what to sing.

So you might want to pick a musical song. I dont know if thye tell you before audtions if you cant sing a song from the movie like for examply your not allowed to sing " Were all in this together" or something like that. So maybe to be on the safe side sing another song from a musical you can never go wrong with that. I tried out for plays before and iv sang musicals before and it never backfired on me lol. So uhm here are some ideas.
"Tomorrow"- From Annie.
"Mama Mia"- From Mama Mia. (id sung this one before and they were impressed)
Those are two examples. Another idea is maybe songs from another disney movie. Some examples for that are....
"Part of your World"- The little mermaid.
"Beauty and the Beast"- Beauty and the beast.
