Putting movies onto your Ipod

Is there a way that I can put a movie onto my ipod (not a movie that i bought on itunes...but a movie that i have on DVD).
*I have the itouch if that helps...

you can put dvds on your ipod but you have to convert the format the movie comes in. movies on itunes are already formatted to play on an ipod but regular dvds arent and need their format changed. however, i'm not sure what the format is or how to change it. sorry.
