Weight loss.

Question Posted Sunday December 16 2007, 3:18 am

Okay, since I was 4 I've been chubby. I never exercised (My mum feared I'd get hurt) and I always ate junk food because my Dad doesn't know how to cook and my Mum was pretty lazy. I'm not HUGE, actually for my lifestyle choices all my life I think I've been pretty lucky. You seriously don't know how bad it was.

Anyway my question is: Do you think I'd be able to lose weight. I'm not expecting to drop the weight in weeks or even months. I'm looking at a long term thing. I've always been chubby so do you think it's possible? I'm 15/f by the way.

My plan is: Drink nothing but water, go for a 20-30 minute walk everyday (I live in a real hilly area so that's good) and eat really healthy foods and never eat junk food.

Do you think I'd be able to do it? I don't care how long it takes.

if ur diet is that strict then no you wont be able to do it because everyone has cravings and its better to have some junk food every once in a while then to deprive yourself because eventually you will give in and pig out. You need to have a set number of calories, not a set amount of junkfood. You also need to walk for more than 20-30 mintues, you can run for that long, but you need to walk for atleast an hour as running burns more calories than walking. Its not about what you eat, but how much you eat. that's key.

I am 17 years old and currently on a diet. I tried everything - fruit diets, water diets, lowfat diets, low calorie diets -- yeah everything. But I finally found a diet that works.. the Alli diet. I already lost ten pounds within a month of being on it. I can tell you that it's OK to drink skim milk or diet coke besides just water. You don't want to drink beverages with empty calories such as juice or regular soda. I also eat foods that are so good that I can't stop eating (yet healthy).

-Kudos snack bars, which come in different varieties like M&Ms flavored or Snickers flavored.

-Nutrigrain bars. If you love fruit you'll love these.

-Special K cereal. It's bland when I eat it plain but I add a little splenda (not sugar) to it and it tastes really good.

For exercising, you don't want to do too much of it in the beginning because you'll become sore fairly quickly. Gradually increase your exercising by 15 minutes every week. With your first week try going 30 minutes just a few times a week. Then gradually increase the time and the amount of times you go out walking. Bring a friend because it goes a lot faster to me.

Also give yourself a reward system. If you lose 10 pounds, buy yourself a candy bar. It won't kill you; unless you eat 10 of them. I reward myself on occasion and I am still successfully losing weight. You don't have to stay on water but you can also go with Crystal Light which flavors your water and only adds 5 calories to it per serving.

I know you didn't ask for advice but I thought it would help since I am on a diet as well. Results do vary but these tips do help in the longrun.

With encouragement from yourself, you will be able to do it. The truth is it is something you got to stick to for a very long time. Yet I am glad you understand that it does take time. Patience is indeed important. Keep it up and I wish you the best of luck.

If you ever at all need any weight loss tips you can also ask me; I have been through it all.

I am 100% sure that you'll be able to pull it off. But don't swear off junk foods just yet, you can always enjoy a chocolate or two :] Everyone is capable of losing weight, but you have to be dedicated. You won't shed the pounds as quickly as you must want to, but in time you'll be at your goal weight :] Make sure you get three meals a day, this will help your metabolism and you can drink some juices, water can get boring after a while :]
Good luck and stay healthy*
