Latin

Question Posted Thursday November 15 2007, 9:25 pm

Can someone help me translate this??please?

Circe
Ulixes nunc omnia praeter (except) suam (his) navem amiserat.

Haec (this) navis ad insulam Aeaeam venit, quam Circe, maga (witch) potens (powerful), regebat. Eurylochus ab Ulixe insulam explorare iubetur. Ubi Eurylochus homines in regiam mittit, Circe cibo certo nautas in sues mutat. Miseri, rogant, " Qui sumus? Quid sumus? Quis in hoc modo edit?" Tum sciunt et exclamant "Sumus similes suibus! Sed sumus homines! Eheu!" (Alas!)

Eurylochus, qui in regiam non iam processerat, ad Ulixem, cui omnia narrat, maturat. Ulixes ad homines statim procedit. Deus Mercurius Ulixi (dative) herbam magicam, quae eum (him) servabit, donat. Ergo (therefore) Ulixes in suem a Circa mutari (to be changed) non potest (is able/can) .

Nautae in homines imperio Ulixis mutantur, et Ulixes cum Circa multos menses manet. Tum, nautae Ulixi (dat) rogant, "Possumusne (are we able) excedere? Ubi excedimus?" Ulixes navigare parat. Circe eum (him) Ulixem de periculis quae invenient monet.

Thank you in advance!

lucky for you i took latin last year as a freshman. um i dont know all of the words but ill try my best.

Circe

Ulixes had been loving everything except his ship/sailors.
This ship went to (insulam Aeaeam), which Circe, a powerful witch, was ruling.
Eurylochus (iubetur) to explore (ab Ulixe insulam).
When Eurylochus lost men (in regiam), Circe (mutat) (cibo certo) the sailors (in sues).
Miserable, they were asking, "Who are you? What are you? (Quis) (edit) in this (modo)?"
Then they (sciunt) and were exclaiming, "We are (similes suibus)! But we are men! Alas!"
Eurylochus, who had not proceeded to him in the (regiam), (maturat) to Ulixes, who was telling all.
At once, Ulixes proceeded to the men.
God Mercury gave Ulixes a magic herb, which would save him. (i think servabit = save. not sure)
Therefore, Ulixes was not able to be changed by Circe (in suem).
Nautae in homines imperio Ulixes mutantur, and Ulixes held many (menses) with Circe. (i dont understand the first part of that sentence, the grammar is hard to comprehend. but i know that homines = men and nautae = ships or sailors)
Then, the sailors asked Ulixes, "We are able to (excedere), aren't we?" When/where (excedimus)?"
Ulixes is preparing the voyage.
Circe eum Ulixem de periculis quae invenient monet. (dont understand that AT ALL lol. eum = him and quae = which/what.)

I'm in Latin V and so far, I have not asked people to translate a big passage of Latin into English for me entirely. I understand that translating can be very hard and frustrating but this seems very easy and straightforward.

Just use the 3 line method.
Write the Latin, leaving 3-4 lines in between each line. Go use a dictionary to look up all the words and write them down underneath the corresponding words. Do that again, except this time, write down the gender/case/number (singular or plural) for the nouns and adjectives OR person (1st, 2nd, 3rd person)/tense/number (sing. or pl) for verbs. Then match up nouns and adjectives & the subjects of each verb. Then off you go. It'll be easy to translate. Yes, this will take a nifty amount of time, but towards the end, you'll get the hang of it and it will become easy for you to translate.

Remember, the only way to become good at anything is by doing it yourself! Plus, we're hear to give advice, like I did. Not here to do anyone's homework for them. And do not use online translators. They suck!!!

What are? Anyone upon this now the publishing of a book? " At that time discerning and to shout " are similar suibus! But are homines! Eheu! Alas! ) Eurylochus , quae upon to be ruled not now processerat , to Ulixem , in which omnia to make known maturat. Ulixes to homines instantly to go out. God Mercurius Ulixi dative herbam more , which he him ) being saved , donation. On account of therefore Ulixes upon suem a Round change to be abeo ) not power ( this able can ).
