Feeling lethargic and lack motivation

Question Posted Wednesday November 7 2007, 6:27 pm

I've been trying to get healthier. I'm cutting out junk food and caffeine [except for coffee]. I just lack the motivation to do things. I'm finding it difficult to force myself to exercise, but it also goes into other parts of my life. I just lack the energy and motivation to do anything. It's effecting my schoolwork, relationships with friends and I'm tired 24/7 it seems like. Is there any way to change this?

I had the same problem a while ago. I was always feeling lethargic like I wanted to sleep all day. Now, instead of focusing on being tired and depressed, I would motivate myself to exercise by thinking, "(insert hot guy's name here) would really like it if I lost a few pounds." I hope I helped.

Hmmm.

- Try to drink alot of water during the day. Staying hydrated is one simple way to avoid fatigue.
- Eat More Often. Food is your energy source and your body needs fuel every four hours or so. Stick with balanced meals & eat lots of fruits, veggies & whole grains.
- Move around. Staying active will keep you mentally alert & it also helps help reduce stress. Why not take the stairs? =]
- Take a nap, or try to get at least eight hours of sleep every night.
- Relax. Doing things you enjoy can help energize your mind after a long day.
- Play. Finding time throughout the day to do something pointless is just the thing for a tired mind.
- Avoid sugar. When that afternoon chocolate craving hits, try some fruit or yogurt to avoid that sugar crash.

If you kept a water bottle the whole day, that would probably help. Keep healthy snacks handy to avoid the vending machine. Go to bed at the same time each night and try to wake up at the same time each morning (even on weekends). Schedule your exercise time so it's harder to skip it.

Good luck!

I've found out the key to having energy and being happy is A LOT OF SLEEP.

if you havent been getting 8-9 hours of sleep per night, i bet thats your problem.

try to eat foods that specifically give you more energy, google some.

Eating healthier is different from eating less. Eating healthier should increase your energy and improve your life. If you eat less though, you will have less energy because you're not eating enough food to keep your energy up. So, my guess is that yes, you may be eating healthier, but you are also eating less, which isn't good. Eat healthy, but make sure you are eating enough, eating balanced, and getting the right nutrients. It might be beneficial for you to see a dietitian about this so that you can be sure you're getting everything you need in your diet. Good luck. :)
