my family LOVES hot pickled okra and we eat it all the time at family dinners and stuff. well it always takes me forever to get the burning out of my mouth, and i read this story where this girl ate one of the hottest peppers in the world, and she started chugging glasses of milk.
will milk really help the burning, or will it just make it worse?
thelaura answered Sunday October 28 2007, 1:55 pm: Milk will definitely help, yes.
Water won't, because capsaicin (a molecule found in most hot foods) isn't soluble in water.
If you are old enough, wine and other alcohols can help, too.
After eating, rinse your mouth with mouthwash. Since mouthwash is around 20% alcohol, swishing it around your mouth will ease the burning sensation. [ thelaura's advice column | Ask thelaura A Question ]
