can people give examples of hooks in their essays? any essay? preferably not a statistic? i dont really know to to make an attention-grabbing statement.

For example, I was writing an essay about the importance of choice, and I began my piece with "Give me liberty or give me death." You can also try the more abstract way with: "Imagine..." and go into a story/anecdote relating to your paper.

Then have your 3-whatever reasons why you chose to write about what your writing about..
