can people give examples of hooks in their essays? any essay? preferably not a statistic? i dont really know to to make an attention-grabbing statement.

I like using quotes from famous historical figures. For example, I was writing an essay about the importance of choice, and I began my piece with "Give me liberty or give me death." You can also try the more abstract way with: "Imagine..." and go into a story/anecdote relating to your paper.

Start with a fact. I wrote a eassy about my relationship with my boyfriend. It started.
"did you know that only 25% of people marry their highschool sweetheart"
Then have your 3-whatever reasons why you chose to write about what your writing about..
Or if your writing it on a book, get a qoute from the book and use it as that. Get a qoute that will follow with your 3-whatever reasons why you liked/disliked the book, or really whatever your writing about.
