Loving someone vs. being in love

Question Posted Sunday October 7 2007, 11:02 am

Do you think there is a difference between loving someone and being in love with them? I really really think I love my boyfriend, but I don't know that I'm in love with him. Does that make sense? And if you do fall in love with someone, they say you will know pretty early on, right? Or can it happen later in a relationship? Thanks

Yeah, there's definitely a difference; you can love a friend, but you don't have to be in love with them, which would mean to have a sense of fidelity and fondness for that goes beyond just friendship. If you're in love with someone, it can take two seconds to realize it, or a year. It depends. Hope I helped.

Being in love with someone implies commitment.

Love as a term has really degenerated.

You love a shirt.

You love your friends from school whom you wont speak to after you graduate.

You love your ex.

Being in love implies a relationship that is somewhat committed. It implies that you have something special with someone that you intend to be more than just another date, another boyfriend.

Judging by the divorce rate, more than half of america doesnt know what being in love means.

There's actually a big difference between loving someone and being in love with them, so your question makes perfect sense.

When you love someone you can just love their personality, or love being around them or how they treat you. Or you can just love yourself when you're around them.

When you're in love with someone they're your eveything, nothing is more important then that person, and you can't imagine your life without them. To be in love with someone is to always want the best for them, to protect them, and to put there needs before your own.

People look at me funny when I say there's a difference...but hey, that's my opinion on the matter.

Love at first sight is possible, but to be in love at first sight isn't. I used to not understand that but now I do. Being in love with someone can take a while. It won't happen during the first few weeks, or maybe even months of a relationship, so don't worry.

Best of luck,

yes, i do believe there is a distance between loving a person, and being in love with them. being inlove with a person means you can't emagine your life without them. you want to spend the rest of your life with them no matter what. when your in love you become blind, and the only thing in your vision is that one person who steals your heart, captures your mornings, and ends your days, while remaining in your mind, and living in your soul. if something tragic was to happen to them, it would destroy every reason you have for living. but when you love someone, and your not in love with them, it means that you care for them strongly, don't ever wanna see them hurt, they hold a very strong place in your heart that no one can touch, but as for being with them for the rest of your life, you are a bit unsure. which is perfectly normal, because that is a very serious desicion to make, not something you wanna do based on any physical connection you have with the person. if you love them, you think about them often, and you miss them if they're gone for a long time, and you love to spend time with them, but even when your in love, it is nice to have that time to yourself also. it takes a strong connection to love someone, but an even stronger connection to fall in love with them. but when falling in love, it doest always happen instantly like the fairytales say, it takes a long time,it could take a while, and sometimes, when it happens, it could go away, but it doesn't mean it wasn't there, it just means it wasn't meant to be. so, i hope i helped you figure out the difference, and remember to keep on smiling.

There's a difference when you absolutely know you mean it, and when you are still unsure. When your in love with someone, you won't question it. You just know.

& I know I fell in love with my boyfriend early. You will usually see it coming, but it can also come later in the relationship.
