Swimming with your period

Question Posted Sunday September 30 2007, 8:13 pm

I'm going to join the swim team in November this year. I've tried to insert a tampon numerous times, but it doesn't work. Will it be okay if I did swim when I have my period? Any tips inserting a tampon.
P.S. I have a very slim body
Thanks

Basically, no. Unless you want blood to kind of float around you when you're swimming, then don't go without one. Once again like the other person said, you have to relax and just practice.

Your period does not stop in water.
I don't know why people seem to think this.

I found this from a website:
"As for bathing, your period doesn't actually stop flowing in water. For most young women, there isn't much flow to the outside when you're in water, says Dr. Hillard. However, even if you usually don't bleed in water, don't skip the tampon. It's better to be safe than sorry."

Basically, you can risk it, but I wouldn't. Keep Practicing putting in a tampon. Practice makes perfect.
If you haven't already, read the instructions on the box, or look at these sites;

The key is to RELAX. If not, you'll be tensing the muscles which will make it very hard to put in.
You'll get the hang of it eventually, promise. Most people go through the "I can't do it" stage.
