You are severely overweight and need to focus on slimming down, not all at once, but in steps. Losing 20 pounds a week is NOT healthy. On the show, the contestants are very carefully monitored and are seen by doctors probably every day. 5 pounds a week is the healthy way to do it. Why don't you try just losing 20 pounds in 2 months? That's more realistic. Then go from there. There's no way you should be thinking about 125. That is very unrealistic for you right now and will only frustrate you and cause you to give up and end up not losing any weight at all. Plus, 145 is a normal weight for your height. There's no need to be aiming for 125. All by itself, 75 pounds is an insurmountable goal. You only really need to lose 55. Even that all together is too much. Split it up and you can do it. If you're not realistic about your goals, you'll never be able to get to where you need to be. You're setting yourself up to fail before you even start. The weight you are at now is dangerous. You need to lose weight and you need to do it the right way. Seek advice from a doctor or dietitian and start taking your health seriously. It's not about fads, game shows, celebrities, or pop culture. It's about your life. 145 is where you need to be and you can get there when you realize that your life is reality, not TV. What you see on TV just isn't the way that life really works. [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]

Remember, all these people HAVE to do every day when they are on these shows IS workout. No jobs, of other obligations.
In the first few weeks, the reason why they lose so much weight is because they weigh (usually) over 250lbs. The heavier you are, the more weight you lose early on because what you lose initially is called "water weight". It's all the extra water your body is holding because of your size. After the first few weeks....it slows down. Also, it depends on the persons metabolism. (Guys tend to lose more, faster than women).
The weight you need to be healthy depends on the frame of your body, your bone structure. Your doctor can help you determine what the best weight would be for you.
If you need more advice on this, let me know! I'd be glad to help.
