Twitching.

Question Posted Wednesday September 19 2007, 7:49 pm

Well, lately my eye had been twitching. And this had never happen to me. Why does my eye twitch? And what causes it to twitch?

Thanks in advance.

When your eye twitches, it can mean a couple of things.

* Corneal irritation or injury
* Stress
* Lack of sleep
* Fatigue
* Prolonged staring or eye strain
* Neurological disorders
* Possibly Hereditary

I'm sure everyone has had this at some point - I know I have and it lasted around 2 days because I was so tired.
If it doesn't ease off or you've had it for a while, get yourself checked out to see what's causing it for you.
Hope it stops soon!

Occasional eye twitching is okay & COMMON. Sometimes there's an abnormal function of the basal ganglion. [a part of the brain responsible for muscles]

You can get this from heredity, anxiety, staring at bright lights, being overly tired, and of course, corneal irritation. So get some sleep and take it easy. I had this happen to me a few times.

You can go to a doctor or wait it out. It wouldn't be much a problem if it turns into chronic twitching either. There's always drug therapy and other options.

But I say it's normal. It happens to at least everyone. Maybe someone else in your family has had it happen.

You could look up on google for more information.

I would book an appointment with optomotrist and tell them your eye has been twitching lately. They will take a look and determine better than anyone can exactly what is happening. They can also refer you to a specialist if need be.
