I need alternativeish songs to play at a middle school dance.
We usually have just rap and hiphop, but we're having one where we don't play any of that.
What are some good dancing songs?
I've thought of
Are you gonna be my girl - Jet
Rollover DJ - Jet
For the Girl - The Fratellis
Well I'll give you some awesome bands instead, because songs may take me a few days to type out:
- The Academy Is...
- Alkaline Trio.
- Boys Like Girls.
- Cartel.
- A Change of Pace.
- Classic Crime.
- Escape The Fate.
- Forever The Sickest Kids.
- Halifax.
- Head Automatica.
- Jamestown Story.
- Maroon 5.
- Mayday Parade.
- Panic! At The Disco.
- October Fall.
- Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
- The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
- The Rocket Summer.
- This Providence.
- Say Anything.
- Sugarcult.
- Taking Back Sunday.
- Valencia.

All techno songs have really good beats and it's hard to keep yourself from moving and jumping around. I really like Cascada, especially the song "Bad Boy". DHT also does good songs and Kelly Llorena is also good. Basically anything techno because it's easy to dance to. I suggest remixes to old songs, too.

alien ant farm - smooth criminal
all american rejects - swing swing
arctic monkeys - d is for dangerous (not well known, but still really good)
beatles - love me do
ben folds five - kate
counting crows - accidentally in love
dave matthews band - ants marching
franz ferdinand - this fire
guns n roses - paradise city
james brown - i feel good
jimi hendrix - foxy lady
juliana theory - don't push love away
the killers - all these things that i've done
lit - my own worst enemy
lynyrd skynyrd - sweet home alabama (everyone loves this song)
matchbox twenty - 3 a.m.
mika - love today (awesome!)
modest mouse - float on
no doubt - just a girl
oasis - morning glory
rolling stones - i can't get no satisfaction
seven mary three - cumbersome
the strokes - 12:51
u2 - beautiful day
velvet revolver - slither
the vines - get free
weezer - the good life
if you don't have these cds, you can listen to a 30 second preview on itunes if you're thinking about buying some. or you can ask your friends if they have any cool cds! also, if you're playing songs from an ipod or laptop or something at the dance, you can put up a little sheet beside the dj table for requests, and people can write down what songs they want to hear. so if you have the song, then you can play it! there are also certain songs that just should be played at every dance... YMCA, crazy frog song, sandstorm, crazy little thing called love (queen), l.o.v.e. (nat king cole), any man of mine (shania twain), and so much more! it sounds like fun :) [ uisforukelele's advice column | Ask uisforukelele A Question ]

maybe you could have a suggestion box in which people can insert their ideas annonymously to prevent the critisizing of others.
What tended to happpen was that if a music genre wasnt liked for example, Rock, all of the people who hated Rock music would scrbble it out and write insullts next to the choice of song or band.
So, in doing this annonyously and having a variety would satusfy everyone at SOME point throughout the night and would prevent alot of squabbling beforehand :)
