In the case of film, a REBEL made by Canon is about all you can get. It runs between $80 and$120.

You don't mention whether you're looking for film or digital. They do mandate that students buy a camera more often than not.

Please add more information ad send me an email to let me know you've done so.

yes it would definetly be best to buy your own camera for the class. that way if something happens to it you wont have to worry about damage fees. a REALLY good camera can range from 200 to 800 bucks. but you could get a small digital camera that is still pretty good for about 150. Kodak, Canon, and Nikon are some good brands to look at. also i dont think they have black and white cameras but you buy black and white film.

Well, at my school, they lend some to students. But they would strongly recommend you to get your own camera most of the time.

And yes, very good cameras are pretty expensive.
And I'm not really sure about the prices and what brands are the best. But you can probably google it.
