I'm starting college on Monday and I just wanted to ask a few general questions. I'm going to Penn State McKeesport (aka Greater Allegheny) if that helps.
1. This might sound weird, but how do people normally dress for college? I come from a HS that didn't allow ANYTHING. I don't know if it's different in college. Like, are shorts and tank tops allowed? I'm just wondering.
2. Obviously, I'll have books. Do people usually carry their books, use backpacks, or use just really big purses?
3. I won't know anyone, and I'm not so good at making friends because I'm really really shy, so any pointers for making friends would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance and sorry if the first 2 questions are really weird, but I have social anxiety disorder, so I NEED to know stuff like that hahah.
Oh and also, I'm driving to school, so no, I won't have a roommate to make friends with. :[
I dont carry all my books. The first day you wont need your books. In class, ask the teacher what books you will need in class because many of them will be used for readings at home. I personally use a purse, only reason is that I dont have to carry all my books to class.
Making friends... Talk to the people you are sitting around...

I know people who carry book bags, but if your going to have a lot of books. Keep them in your car and go trade off. If possible. I know it may say a class ends at a certain time but not alway. It may end early. So you'll have time to do other stufff. You will eventually make friends. In some classes you may have to stand up an introduce yourself. as for books...most keep a backpack or messenger bag...sure in HS is those big purses...but most people carry their books in a backpack and their laptop in a messenger...but it really varies by college and standards
as for making friends...college is a great time to break out of your shell and show everyone who you really are...get out and join clubs and get involved with tons of student activities with people with similar interests...you'll make loads of new friends because you'll all be doing something that you like. Once you start making some friends it will be a lot easier for you to burst out of your shell and become more extroverted...I think college will be a great experience for you...just remember to have fun!
