sit ups won't really help you lose weight. they're calisthenics, and all calisthenics really do is tone and build a little bit of muscle.

like the other people said cardio exercises are good for weight loss.
running, biking, swimming etc.
you could take up some sports to lose weight; in my opinion swimming and soccer would be the best because swimming also tones your body at the same time, and soccer is pretty much all running, so that would be great if you;re trying to shed a few pounds.

eating right is also important when trying to lose weight. try to stay away from fats, but not all. monounsaturated fats are good because they come from vegetables and can help lower cholesterol. polyunsaturated fats are also good because they lower cholesterol too; they're found in fish.
saturated fats aren't great for you, but they're found in nearly all foods so its hard to avoid them.
trans fats are the absolute worst kind of fats. not only are they unhealthy, they stick to your arteries and eating too many can lead to a heart attack. not that a 14 year old has to worry about that, but still. avoid them at all costs.

drink plenty of water. remember, water has 0 calories, so drink as much as you want :] you won't gain any weight from it so don't worry if you feel bloated; thats good. drink a glass of water before meals because it will fill up your stomach and you'll eat less. try to stay away from soft drinks and sugary drinks. if you drink soda regularly, you will lose at least 2 lbs within a week if you stop. if you get tired of water, you could always add a little flavor by adding lemon or lime.

also when you diet, DO NOT try to go without food for long periods of time. not only will you be very hungry and probably eat more than you usually would at meals, it will not help you lose any weight. in fact, you'd probably lose weight because your metabolism will slow down. i'd explain further but this is getting pretty long now.

if you have any more questions, feel free to ask me :]

you won't notice any major changes until about a month later.

uhmm, you could try running. join a sport? maybe basketball or volleyball if your school has those sports. join your local gym.

I agree with the answer below. The best exercise for losing weight is cardio. That includes jogging, many sports, stair machines, biking, etc etc.

The sit ups will build some muscle but wont do all that much for your general health and weight loss. Dont get me wrong, any exercise is better than no exercise, but it wont do all that much.

Also remember, that diet goes hand in hand with the exercise, so watch what you eat.

You can go jogging outside for 10_15 minutes then work up,go swimming for 40 minutes daily, eating the right nutrient vegetables,no sugar, pasta,a lot of H2O after you finish exercising, and throughout the day as well.
