serious procrastinating program

Question Posted Saturday August 18 2007, 11:22 pm

okay. I'm a 15 year old girl. I'm a straight A student and I'm in all honors/advanced classes. I'm going into the 10th grade. And I have one AP Euro class. well...this is where the problem comes in. I procrastinate too much. I come home from school at 2:30. And I have ballet at 6 o'clock. In between that time...There is NO way that I can force myself to do homework. so what do I do? I procrastinate and go on the computer. Should I take a nap instead? Okay...so then after I have ballet lessons which are one hour each (Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) (Wednesdays are 2 hours) I get home. I eat dinner, shower, etc etc. When all that is finished..it's already 8 o'clock (9 on wednesdays). And I haven't done ANY of my homework. So I start doing it...and I don't finish until like 12 (or even later). I have problems waking up at 6 A.M because of this. And my problem presents and even bigger problem because of how it distracts me :( (You see, I have friends online...and I don't want to not be able to talk to them because of homework). What can I do to limit the amount of procrastination in my 10th grade year? Thanks in advance :( Are naps recommended during free time? If so, how long? Please help..

ah, I forgot to put that the main cause of the distraction is my laptop! ;_; But I can't just shut it off!.

as soon as you get home try doing 1/2 of your homework. then you will still have time to get on the computer. after ballet finish the rest of your homework and you should be able to get it done much earlier. also dont do your homework in front of the computer. i know its tempting but the computer will distract you and just make it take a lot longer.

i think the best thing for you to do is get your mom or dad to ban you from your laptop or television or whatever until you've done your homework. then you have some incentive to do your homework! you can even split it up into two parts... before ballet, and after ballet. also, if you have friends online, do you talk to them every day? why not talk to them every other day so that you can get your stuff done? oh, and i read this thing where it's better for you to get all your sleep all at once... so try to stay away from naps. i don't know how your school schedule is, but at my school, we have two nights to do homework. so, if you have homework over the weekend or something, why not do it all sunday afternoon? and here's something that helps me... if i know i'm going to have to stay up late, i'll take a shower at night so i can sleep like thirty minutes later in the morning.

Wow.. I can relate to you sooo much. Except I swim every day for two hours, and it takes me half an hour to get there.

I think as you leave in the morning for school, you should ask a member of your family to hide your laptop, and then after you come home from ballet, give it back to you. That way after school you can do all your homework, and then chat with your friends when you come back from ballet.

Another thing I read, is to set an alarm clock. For example, you come home at 2:30, and set the alarm clock to ring at 3:30, or less dependng how much homework you have. When it rings, shut the computer. If you were chatting with someone, warn them ahead of time that you are going to go at exactly 3:3O, and not to be offended. Then take the laptop somewhere out of you sight, and do your homework. When you are done with all of it, you can then go back on the computer, or take a nap.

Good luck!!

Hello. This is right up my alley, except i dont do ballet or anything but i do procastinate and im in 8th grade. What my goal is to come home eat a snack do a majority of my homework before dinner. Then go on my computer a little after dinner like depending on how much homework i have. I have an hours worth then i'll go on for 20 mintutes. If i have less than 30 minutes. Depending on how much i have. What i would do is if you get home at 2:30. I would eat a snack , if you want one. Then start the homework(i know its dumb and busywork lol) Then do most of it until 6. On Mondays. Then finish the rest of it when you get home. Then maybe if you have extra free time before bed or shower etc. Go on the computer. Then on regular days do a majority of it before dinner then the rest after. Thats what i do it somewhat helps. I do get good grades though. I made Distinguished honer roll the whole 7th grade year. Then i would try to go to bed no later then 9:30 because i know its really hard to get up when you go to bed late then have to wake up really early. Also if you have any study halls do it then also. Well i hope i have helped you. Thank you. Have A great day! =]

Just think how nice it would be if you could get your homework done right after school. The minute you walk in the door, when your mind is still in the "school mode"... just sit down, open your books, and get it out of the way! Then you'll have the rest of the afternoon, and the whole evening after ballet, to relax on the computer, without having that worry hanging over your head.

You can do it! If the laptop is distracting you, just remove the tempation. At night, before you go to bed, turn it off, unplug it, fold it up, and put it away. That way, when you get home from school the next day, it won't be sitting there calling to you. If you make it difficult for yourself to get on, you won't be as tempted to get on "just for a second" (which of course turns into all afternoon). Once you've finished your homework, you won't mind taking the extra few minutes to set it back up, because you'll know that you'll have the whole evening to enjoy it.
