It depends what you're talking about. If you mean how the bird itself smells like (when it is clean), it smells a little bit like chalk. Just smell a feather and you'll know what I mean.
If it is a sea bird, then it will smell like fish and salt water, or if its a river or pond bird, it'll smell like pond water and algae. But in order to smell a bird, you will actually have to touch your nose to the feathers in order to smell anything.
If you are talking about their poop, it smells really bad. It has a very sharp, pungent aroma to it. It's really hard to explain. Birds that eat fish, like gulls or pelicans for example, will have a fishy tinge to it. Scavengers, like vultures, are the smelliest.
