need bible verses.

alright, so i got in an argument about bible verses with a friend of mine and i need help finding a few.
1. women aren't allowed to minister in the church
2. divorced women can't remarry
3. homosexuality is a sin
4. wearing gold jewelry is a sin
5. you must wait until marriage to have sex
only NEW TESTAMENT verses please, if you have any or all of these it would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I gave you advice. The answers are all around you and in my advice if you had ears. You "just wanted verses" and already got them from previous advicenators, so I went out of my way to do more. You are welcome, and though numbers here are absolutely meaningless, the point that you took nothing from my advice will be visited upon you in the future. Good Luck anyway.

What will you get out of the arguement whether or not you win the debate? Just wondering...anyway, even if you have the verses, the historical context and sociology of the time would have to be considered in the interpretation. The pharisees argued, the greeks argued...Hell, maybe the most religious thing one can do on the Sabbath is to fight with your neighbor about the rights and wrongs of biblical meanings and applications. There are a ton of rules and regulations in the N.T. that have more to do with constructing the new Christian society, and less to do with pleasing God. Humans get so distracted from the point...its like parenting in the everyday. All these rules we make up to try to protect our little treasures and keep out the thieves, and in the end we realize that we have only robbed ourselves of the time we should have spent adoring them.

The bible says in 1 Timothy 2:12 that women are not to be pastors, that doesn't mean they can't minister. Women minister to other women and to children; just not to men. 1 Timothy 3 lays out what a pastor is and it clearly says a pastor must be a man.

Our society sees divorce as a matter of going to court and signing a legal document that says a person is divorced. But in God's eyes that marriage is still a binding agreement. Therefore, even if it's legal in the court system, it's adultery as far as God is concerned. Luke 16:18

God says that the only righteous sexual relationship is between one man and one woman bond by marriage. 1 Corinthians 7:1-2 Any other sexual relationship outside of that is sin including homosexuality. 1 Corinthians 6:9

Wearing gold jewelry in and of itself is not sin. It becomes sin when a woman who claims to know the Lord cares more about outer beauty than keeping her heart pure. To put 1 Timothy 2:9 in today's terms...If a woman/girl claims to know the Lord, she needs to not dress (whether clothes or accessories) as to catch the lustful eyes of a man, but rather be modest.

Waiting to have sex goes back to 1 Corinthians 7:1-2 and 1 Corinthians 6:9; it's sin. And there is ALWAYS consequence to sin. God tells us to wait for marriage to protect us, not to prevent us from having "fun". Sex is a gift from God to be enjoyed between a married man and woman. Let me put it this way...I personally know the heart ache of sex before marriage. It's a difficult road that you can never rewalk.

Well, I'm glad you're looking for verses and not just saying, "this is how it is". That's a great start! Try not to be so aggressive though.

I've never heard this one before! It doesn't say anything in the new teastament about this, i don't believe. I can't find anything on this... but at the bottom of this post i will put the main website i found these answers on.

5. You must wait until marrige

I Corinthians 6:9:
The passage: In his first epistle to the church at Corinth, Paul lists many activities that will prevent people from inheriting the Kingdom of God (heaven). Robertson's Word Studies refers to this passage as: "a solemn roll call of the damned even if some of their names are on the church roll in Corinth whether officers or ordinary members." 1

The King James Version of the Bible translates verse 9 and 10 as:

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." (Emphasis ours)



I had no idea wearing gold jewelry was a sin. Wow.
Here's one for that:

The first is 1 Pet 3:3 which reads,

“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel…”


The second and very similar verse is 1 Tim 2:9 that says,

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array…”


For sex before marriage, here's one:

"Run away from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body." (1 Cor. 6:18, NLT).



I couldn't find anything on marriage after a divorce, or women allowed to minister. I hope some of these help. :)
